Because your brain and body don't need to use the energy to deal with gravity and sensory input while floating, it allows them to focus on healing and regeneration instead. Just 1 hour in the tank ( regardless of whether you sleep) can be as restorative as 4 hours of sleep. It's especially beneficial when you're feeling drained and traditional rest doesn’t seem to help.
But the healing isn't limited to your body! Since our brains typically use about 90% of their resources to handle gravity and what we see and hear, taking just one hour to disconnect can provide a much-needed reset.
Floating offers tremendous benefits for night shift workers who often feel exhausted, as daytime sleep rarely matches the restorative quality of night time rest. It's also highly advantageous for individuals in demanding, high-stress jobs that leave their minds fatigued, resulting in a persistent sense of depletion and burnout, or even for mothers who never have a chance for a full night sleep and never have a break from demands of their children and housework.
A persistent sense of exhaustion may also stem from prolonged periods in fight-or-flight mode. When we remain in this heightened state for too long without seeing a way out, we can slip into a freeze response, leading to feelings of depression, fatigue, and a desire to do nothing but sleep. The good news is that floating can help alleviate this! It effectively balances your brainwaves, deactivates the fight-or-flight response, reduces cortisol levels, and boosts endorphin production. As a result, floaters often emerge from the tank with a more positive mindset, hope, and motivation than when they entered.
Personally, I don't feel having a lot of energy straight after the float, as I'm so much relaxed it makes me more sleepy than energised; however, the following day, I feel as if I've returned from a long vacation, completely recharged and full of energy. Many floaters experience this revitalizing effect immediately after their sessions!
