How Floatation Therapy Helped Me Prepare for an Important Event

❤️ Personal story ❤️

I have a confession to make: lately, I've drifted away from floating a little.

Don't get me wrong—I still try to float at least once a week because I know how important it is for maintaining my calm and keeping my nervous system regulated. But recently, I've found myself spending more time in the infrared sauna.

Every evening after closing Blissful Float Spa, I can't resist sneaking into the sauna for a session. It has been a huge help in managing the extreme fatigue caused by long Covid. Since I haven't found much time for jogging lately, I'm grateful to have another way to support my cardiovascular health and energy levels.

The infrared sauna had become my go-to wellness tool... until I received a phone call that changed everything.

I was informed that an Ofsted inspection was coming for my other job as a childminder and after-school club owner.

Suddenly, all the calm I'd built up disappeared.

Even though regular floating has dramatically reduced my day-to-day stress levels, the thought of an inspection threw me completely off balance. Managing two businesses means there is always the fear that something important could slip through the cracks. I had very little time to review paperwork, check procedures, or prepare myself mentally.

I felt anxious, overwhelmed, and helpless.

That's when floatation therapy came to the rescue.

Why I Floated Every Day Before My Inspection

In the days leading up to the inspection, I floated every day.

Something remarkable happened.

Instead of spiralling into worry, my mind became clear and focused. During each float session, I found myself calmly reviewing different aspects of my childminding business. It was almost like receiving a refresher course on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and all the other areas I needed to be confident about.

Rather than panicking, I was preparing.

During my final float before the inspection, I experienced something even more powerful. I mentally walked through the entire inspection process. I visualised the inspector arriving, imagined the questions she might ask, and rehearsed my responses.

By the time I stepped out of the float tank, I felt prepared, confident, and surprisingly calm.

The Results Surprised Everyone

On the morning of the inspection, I bumped into several childminders during the school run.

They congratulated me on getting through the inspection because I looked so relaxed and relieved.

When I told them the inspection hadn't even started yet, they couldn't believe it!

Looking back, I think the children sensed my calmness too. They were exceptionally settled that day. No arguments, no tears, no meltdowns—something that doesn't happen very often when a stranger is observing the setting.

The inspector commented on how happy, confident, and comfortable the children appeared.

Normally, when I'm stressed, my mind goes blank and I struggle to articulate my thoughts. But this time was different. Thanks to the floating—and thanks to the inspector being so warm and friendly—I found myself chatting away as if we were old friends.

We even ended up talking about floatation therapy! 🤣

And yes... I passed with a glowing report.

Why Floatation Therapy Is So Powerful Before Important Events

This experience reminded me just how powerful floatation therapy can be when preparing for stressful or important events.

Whether you're facing:

- An exam

- A job interview

- A presentation

- A business meeting

- A performance

- An inspection

- A difficult life decision

Floating can help quiet the noise, regulate your nervous system, reduce anxiety, and create the mental clarity needed to perform at your best.

Instead of being consumed by stress, you can approach the situation feeling calm, focused, and confident.

My New Go-To Stress Management Tool

Now I know exactly where to turn when life throws something stressful my way.

Nothing I've tried comes close to floatation therapy when it comes to preparing for important events. As someone who naturally tends to worry and panic, floating helps me step out of survival mode and into a calm, resourceful state where I can think clearly and trust myself.
